ANNOUNCING

Actress Blyth Duff to be Games Chieftan more>

Welcome from the Chair

Our Games this year will be held at the Public Park in Rothesay on Saturday 22nd August.   The opening ceremony will take place at 12.00noon when I will have great pleasure in officially opening the games and introducing you to our Chieftain for the day Blythe Duff, better known as DS Jackie Reid in “Taggart”.  We had the privilege of her company when she attended Bute Highland Games last year and the organising committee was delighted that she accepted the invitation to be Chieftain this year.

The Games will kick off with a Junior Shinty Tournament which will be played in round robin format with the top two teams competing for the GMB Trophy.  Highland Dancing plays a prominent part in the day commencing at approximately 10.00am and the Pipe Band Competition will feature heavily throughout the afternoon.  Heavy Events commence at 2.30pm and will finish with the every popular Tossing the Caber.

In this year of Homecoming we welcome highland dancers from Rothesay, New Brunswick, Canada and extend a free invitation to all our local armed services personnel who are on leave to visit the Games.

Bute Highland Games is one of the most popular in the games circuit and offers a great deal for a family day out with Highland Dancing, Pipe Bands, Wrestling, Athletics, 10k Road Race, Heavy Events including the Tossing the Caber.  Childrens entertainment, side stalls, catering and bar facilities will be available.   If you would like some relaxation during the day and have the use of the Patron’s Tent please log on to the Patron’s site for more information.

The closing ceremony will take place around 5.30pm with bands forming a “hollow square” and on the command of the Gathering Drum Major the bands will play “Salute to the Chieftain”. After the Salute to the Chieftain has been taken Blythe will be invited to present the trophies to the Pipe Band winners.

If you manage to attend our Highland Games please enjoy your day.
